City of Plattsburgh Climate Task Force
City of Plattsburgh Climate Task Force works to help the City achieve New York State Climate Smart Communities (CSC) and NYS Clean Energy Communities (CEC) goals. These state programs assist municipalities’ efforts to adapt to and mitigate the effects of climate change.
Too good to waste... Residential Composting Program
The Task Force has been working with the Clinton County Health Department to establish a Residential Organic Waste Program. Compost bins will be available for City residents to drop off their food waste.
Starting with two bins
The City is starting with two drop-off locations, one on George Angell Drive and one by the Plattsburgh Farmers Market on Green Street. Additional locations will be added if necessary after the pilot program ends.
City-wide art contest
The Task Force held an art contest to determine the design that the compost bins will be wrapped with. A winner has been selected and will be attending the ribbon cutting event when the bins are unveiled!
Bin delivery
The two ADA compliant bins are enroute to the City as of May 2026. Slabs are being poured in preparation and the estimated opening date for the bins will be September of 2026.
